Aviation is the best teacher of trust
Consistency, honesty, and care: the three pillars of basic trust, and why the aviation system is built exactly on them.
Anxious people often have difficulties with trust. It is hard for them to trust other people, the world, and even themselves. I always say: restore your trust in the world through trust in aviation. It deserves it more than anyone else.
Basic trust is built on three things: consistency, honesty, and care. And these are exactly what lie at the foundation of the entire aviation system.
Consistency and predictability
Predictability is especially important for an anxious person. Aviation is a territory of absolute order. Before takeoff, pilots always check checklists. When you board a plane, you can be absolutely sure that this check will take place, and you can even observe it if you are sitting by the wing.
Engine start, systems check, taxiing, takeoff: everything happens in a clear sequence. Even sounds, for example, the extension of flaps, which often frighten anxious passengers, are repeated every time and are a routine part of the process.
Honesty and responsibility
Pilots can only be at the controls if they have passed numerous exams and proved they can be there. Every six months, they retake these exams and land the plane in the most difficult conditions, and only then can they still fly. On the ground, such a level of regular control is extremely rare.
Care
Connection and care are what many anxious people lacked in childhood. You will never see a single sharp corner in the aircraft cabin. This is done with care for you, so that during turbulence you cannot accidentally hit yourself. And the tea that will be brought to you on board will never be hot enough to burn you, even if it suddenly spills.
Can you imagine how thoughtful the care for your health and safety is? That is why aviation is the best teacher of trust.
Of course, if our trust was once broken, we cannot just up and start trusting the world and planes all over again. We need time, knowledge, and the right tools. This is exactly where the SkyGuru app can be useful: it has everything a fearful flyer needs to gradually return trust not only to planes, but to life in general.
